While the Sound-to-Print connection is the most important for beginning readers, Letter Names and Sight Words can be useful in the right context.

Some beginning readers can be confused with understanding the difference between the Sounds and the Letter Names. In the SoundBlends Stories, Letter Names are not needed. Letter Names can be helpful with Spelling lessons, after reading fluency is mastered.
Memorizing the shapes of Words can sometimes get in the way of mastering the Sound-to-Print connection. In the SoundBlends Stories, only a few sight words are needed, and they are introduced slowly and in the context of the stories.
